Job Description


The City of Merritt is looking for a Financial Analyst to join our Finance and IT Team in a nine-month term position.

In this position, you will provide support to the organization's day-to-day financial operations. As a Financial Analyst, you will carry out data and financial analysis and support the preparation and approval of journal entries, financial reports, and statements. You will participate in the administration of property taxes and utility billings and related initiatives and projects including establishing an asset management program and related software implementation.


Qualifications


The ideal candidate possesses:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Commerce (Accounting) or equivalent academic prerequisites for the Chartered Professional Accountant Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) plus completion of the CPA PEP's six integrated core competency areas.
  • Four years' experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • A strong customer focus and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and customers to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficient with public sector accounting principles and practices, along with a working knowledge of the rules, regulations, procedures and by-laws applicable to municipal financial operations.
  • Sound knowledge of computerized data processing systems (knowledge of Vadim an asset).
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to develop, organize, maintain and improve a comprehensive financial, budget and cost control program.
