Position Overview

The Police Administration Department is seeking to hire a regular full time Custodial Guard.
Responsibilities
You will visually check prisoners to ensure their safety and security, record details in a Prisoner Log Book, and assist with the prisoner booking process. You will also search, clean, and inspect cells and adjacent cell block areas; assist with prisoner photographs and fingerprints; enter information into a database and spreadsheet; process prisoner effects; and perform other related duties. The Custodial Guard provides first aid to prisoners when required.
Requirements
You must have some related experience; the ability to act quickly, correctly and calmly in emergency situations; and possess the physical strength necessary to perform the work. Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts, as well as the ability to contribute positively in a team environment, are required. A valid first aid certificate and a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, are also required for the position. Computer experience is an asset.
Compensation
$25.35 to $29.70 per hour
(Pay Grade 14 – January 2021 rates)
Hours of Work
Twelve (12) consecutive hours work shift, 4 on 4 off schedule, starting between the hours of 5:30am and 8:00am for dayshift, and starting between the hours of 5:30pm and 8:00pm for nightshift. Shift work, including evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
Additional Information
You will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance as a condition of ongoing employment.
