This is recreational programming and supervisory work involved in assessing community needs, planning, coordinating and scheduling recreation services and programs at Bonsor Recreation Complex. This position will have responsibility for programming areas such as racquet court services, table tennis, children’s day camps, summer camps & sports camps, access services and special events; for the supervision and management of a staff team that provides programming support, direct program supervision and instruction, frontline customer service and facility supervision. The Coordinator – Recreation Programs liaises with activity groups and committees, community agencies and other centre staff on service development and implementation; identifies volunteer requirements; and liaises with volunteers providing service delivery; hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff; performs routine administration work, facility supervision, monitors expenditures and revenues and provides preliminary budgets; orders and controls various supplies and promotes services. The position liaises with staff to develop in-house promotional materials and displays. Performs related work as required.

Qualifications include the completion of a two year community college program in Community Recreation, plus sound related supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and objectives of community recreation and community involvement is needed. Experience with hiring and supervising front line programs and operations staff is needed as is the ability to maintain effective relationships with community groups, agencies and the general public; to prepare and maintain budgets, reports, correspondence and the development of promotional materials. Strong interpersonal and communications skills are considered an asset. A valid Class 5 Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
