TRUCK DRIVER 2/ASPHALT RAKER

COMPETITION #22-143

DEPARTMENT: Engineering STATUS: Full Time


HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours/week SALARY: $31.51 per hour plus benefits


The Engineering department is seeking a Truck Driver 2/Asphalt Raker. In this position you will be
assigned to a crew engaged in the construction, repair and maintenance of streets and roadways. Your
primary duties will be transporting construction and maintenance materials, raking asphalt mixtures,
seal-coating surfaces and performing routine construction and maintenance work. On occasion you may
be called on to supervise one or two employees engaged in related tasks.

If you have the following characteristics and qualifications, we want to hear from you:

Grade 12 plus considerable experience in the operation of large trucks used in general maintenance
and construction work, as well as sound experience in asphalt work.

Thorough knowledge of the rules of safe operation and of the precautions to be taken to avoid
accidents in driving trucks of four cubic yard capacity and over.

Sound knowledge of truck driving techniques as applied to municipal landscaping, maintenance and
construction work.

Some knowledge of maintenance and construction techniques.
Good knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in asphalt paving and patching

operations.
Ability to operate trucks safely and efficiently and perform minor repair and servicing tasks on same

as required.
Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and direct the work of subordinates

engaged in routine tasks.
Ability to finish asphalt surfaces to prescribed grade and depth.
Skill in the operation of large trucks with attached or auxiliary equipment, and in the use of standard

tools used in the work.
Mechanical aptitude.
Preference will be given to those with a valid BC Class 3 driver’s license.
