West Vancouver Transit (Blue Bus) has an immediate opening for a Transit Mechanic “A”. This is mechanical work at the journeyman level. All levels of apprentice in commercial transport and/or heavy duty are also encouraged to apply.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position will be responsible for: performing mechanical overhaul, repair, and maintenance tasks on transit vehicles in the shop or in the field, completing a variety of complex mechanical assessments; diagnosing various electronic components by performing diagnostic testing and troubleshooting using relevant computer software; submitting reports and maintaining records; performing a variety of gas and electrical welding tasks; and other related work as required.

The successful candidate will possess, or have the ability to obtain and retain:

  • Certificate of Trades Qualification in Commercial Transport Mechanics or Heavy Duty
  • Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate
  • Class 3 Driver's License with Air Brake Endorsement

Additional requirements for this position include a minimum of five years' relevant experience; current knowledge of diesel engine and transmission electronic control systems; possession of own hand tools; air conditioning courses; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

During the assessment process, successful candidates will be required to submit an acceptable Driver’s Abstract from ICBC. The successful candidate is required to supply a police information check and a copy of their credentials. The successful candidate is also required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of hire.

Position Status:


Union (ATU) – Permanent, Full-time


Hours of Work:


40 hours per week

4 days on/3 consecutive days off (consistent workweek and schedule)


Rate of Pay:


$42.61 per hour *Plus tool allowance

Please note that the rate of pay at an apprentice level will start from $29.83 - $40.48 per hour

Plus: $1.95/hr shift differential for afternoon shifts and Sunday pay premiums
