AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance, Fleet/Foreperson, Fleet Maintenance, responsible for the control and management of spare parts inventory and ensuring that the appropriate quantities of spare parts are available for the maintenance of Transit vehicles.

  • Obtains quotations and procures and purchases bus repair parts and services from various suppliers.
  • Organizes and maintains Transit stock room and issues parts to maintenance staff as required.
  • Maintains Fleet Maintenance and inventory control systems, purchase requisition system and vehicle work orders.
  • Assists in the research of new sources for acquisition of parts.
  • Conducts inventory cycle counts.
  • Conducts yearly physical inventory counts.
  • Organize and update MSDS inventory and binders.
  • Performs other similar and related duties to this position, as assigned.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

EDUCATION:
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent secondary education as established by the Ontario Ministry of Education.
  • Successful completion of an accredited course in Inventory management that is at least 56 hours in course duration and/or a minimum of three (3) years experience in heavy vehicle stock keeping.
  • Sound knowledge of vehicle parts and their uses, and computerized stock keeping systems.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience in purchasing and/or in expediting heavy-duty bus parts an asset.
  • Computer proficiency and working knowledge of maintenance management systems.


OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:
  • A valid Ontario non-probationary class G driver’s licence, in good standing.
  • Must meet the commercial driver’s license vision standards.
  • A current forklift operator’s certificate, or the ability to obtain a forklift operator’s certificate.
  • Good organizational and planning skills; good computer skills.
  • Experience with Account Payable procedures, including invoicing and purchase orders.
  • Able to work shifts and variable hours.
  • Able to handle physical demands of the job.
  • Able to work outside and in all weather conditions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast paced environment.
  • Able to wear required personal protective equipment and use appropriate safety equipment to complete job tasks in a safe manner.
