Reporting to the Manager – Oral Health Programs (OHP) and working with Dental Therapist (DT’s), Territorial Dental Office (TDO), Supervisor Health Programs (SHP’s) and others, the Regional Community Oral Health Coordinator (RCOHC) will supervise and provide leadership to the Community Oral Health Coordinators (COHOs) who are responsible for providing community-wide oral health promotion, education and preventive oral health care services especially for children 12 years and under or up to Grade. 7.

In an effort to improve the oral health of all children 12 years of age and under, the RCOHC works with the COHCs and a variety of health care professionals, especially oral health professionals, in the promotion of oral health. The RCOHC also provides support to COHCs as they deliver oral health education and prevention activities as well as training the COHCs to ensure they are able to adequately fulfill their role. Other duties include travelling to communities who have scheduled screening ahead of the dentist’s visit and functioning as a liaison between the COHC’s. community, region and territorial health care system in the area of oral health. Qualified Dental Therapist and Dental Hygienist may be required to provide clinical dental services.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized Diploma in office administration, dental services, or a related field along with two (2) years’ experience in office administration dental services or a related field. One (1) year of supervisory experience is also required. Registration as a Dental Therapist or Dental Hygienist would be considered an asset. This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

As this is a term position until March 31, 2023, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
