Reporting to the Mental Health and Addiction Program Supervisor. The Mental Health and Addiction (MHA) Assistant will assist MHA staff with leading or supervising programs group-work and providing additional supporing the efficient and consistent delivery of day-to-day administrative support within the department. This position is critical to the effective operation of MHA service. The MHA Assistant ensures that staff are well supported in providing client care. As the successful candidate you ensure program, general and administrative functions are carried out in a timely manner, ensure coordination, communication and appropriate relations for the daily work of the office, and maintains the protection of sensitive client information. You will also provide transportation and escort services to clients.

The incumbent takes the lead in supporting delivery of effective Mental Health and Addicition (MHA) services by assisting MHA staff with leading/supervising programs or group-work and providing additional support to clients when appropriate, organizing client participation, tracking attendance, ordering supplies. Escorting low-risk clients to and from other communities or out-of-territory facilities when appropriate. Carrying out office procedures to ensure smooth opertation of office by phones are answered and messages delivered in a professional, courteou and tactful manner, transcribing from handwritten notes, following Health and Safety procedures and protocols. Developing and maintaining office filing systems by checking charts and documents prior to filing that they are filed or archived properly. Handling all incoming and outgoing mail and facsimile transmission by regularly collecting, sorting and distributing incoming mail, arranging for air shipment for packages and address large items. You will also be maintaining staff forms and files by logging and entering all leave, overtime and attendance documents, ensuring timesheets are completed accurately and submitted on time.

To be invited for an interview; you obtained a high school diploma or equivalent, one year of experience working in an office, health or mental health environment, valid Nunavut’s driver’s license is an asset. The contextual knowledge for this position is general office and administrative procedures including file management; techniques, methods and practices of communication are required for maintaining records, data tracking, collecting and distributing information. The ability to use a personal computer, including skills in using word processing, electronic mail and spreadsheet software, effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond to urgent requests.

Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official language is an asset. Knowledge of Inuit language, communities, culture, land and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is an asset.

Equivalencies that consist of an acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
