Job Information
The Retail Support Specialist is located in Yellowknife and reports to the Manager, Lottery Programs. The incumbent is accountable for the successful day to day management of lottery tickets and services and for providing support for retailers in the Northwest Territories/Nunavut. The integrity and growth of the lottery system and revenue is important to ensuring funding is available for sport, recreation, and physical activity programs in the NWT.
The incumbent is responsible for assisting with the Western Canada Lottery Corporation and ensuring that all financial administration, acts, and regulations are in compliance with WCLC requirements. This position is responsible for assisting retailers and for managing a scratch ticket inventory of up to $1,000,000. The Retail Support Specialist assists in the implementation of programs that help inform residents about gambling addictions and the potential negative impacts on communities and residents. Working as part of WCLC project teams ensures awareness of best practices to maximize lottery revenue.
The critical knowledge, skills and abilities that are required include but are not limited to:
- Knowledge of the northern retail environment
- Knowledge of current accounting practices and standards for government and not-for-profit organizations
- Knowledge of marketing, promotions, financial planning, and bookkeeping
- Sound analytical/problem solving skill to identify problems and propose solutions
- Good interpersonal skills, demonstrating awareness of cultural and language differences
- Ability to manage time, set priorities and make decisions
- Strong team player, promoting positivity and motivation
- Ability to carry boxes up to 30lbs repeatedly and to perform repetitive actions to scan tickets
Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by a degree in Business Administration, financial management or an equivalent field and at least 2 years of experience in sales and/or marketing.
