The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) provides the residents of the Northwest Territories with access to quality programs, services and support to assist them in making informed and productive choices for themselves and their families with regard to education, training, careers, employment and labour, child development, languages, culture and heritage.

Job Information

The Department of Education, Culture and Employment (ECE) is currently recruiting for an energetic, experienced and innovative individual to help implement and support training on the new NWT Our Language curriculum. This unique Indigenous languages curriculum is an integral piece of the larger goal of revitalizing Indigenous languages throughout the NWT.

To be successful in this role you will need second language teaching experience in an Indigenous language classroom or in a JK-12 northern classroom. As an important member of the team, you will provide input into the overall curriculum implementation, resource development and support for Indigenous language Instructors across the territory. This will require travel to regional centres and individual communities, as needed.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

Enrolment in, or completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field, and five (5) years of related work experience, including a minimum of two (2) years of successful experience teaching or supporting a second language class within a JK-12 Northern classroom.

Preference will be given to a candidate who can speak one of the official NWT Indigenous languages, who has successfully completed an Indigenous language program/course, or who has a current NWT teaching certificate.
