Full Description

The School of Construction and the Environment and the Geographic Information Systems ( GIS ) program at BCIT are currently seeking a regular, full time Instructor to deliver a variety of courses in the GIS diploma and degree programs. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in fundamentals and advanced topics in GIS, databases, spatial systems management, remote sensing, and programming to students in the full-time programs. The GIS department also offers an active slate of part-time studies courses. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills and be committed to presenting relevant course materials to prepare students for an exciting career in GIS.

Duties & Responsibilities
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES :

The position involves delivering lectures, assignments and exams, and supervising student projects and practicums. Success of the GIS program is achieved through the faculty’s excellence in instruction, close ties with industry, and mentoring and motivating of the students to succeed. The position will also require supporting the department through additional non-instructional roles and departmental tasks. In addition the position will require maintaining and updating existing course content to stay current with technology and software. Graduates of both the diploma and degree programs find employment in a wide range of fields in both the public and private sectors.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS :

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Graduated from a formal GIS post-secondary education program
  • Experience in teaching GIS at the post-secondary level
  • Minimum of 5 years’ industry experience in the field of GIS
  • Strong working knowledge of latest version of ESRI Suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online) software including multiple extensions
  • Knowledge of FME, AutoCAD, and Remote Sensing is an asset
  • Thorough knowledge of GIS, programming, and database principles
  • Strong working knowledge of Python programming in a GIS environment
  • Demonstrable skills in spatial data management and analysis
  • Experience with open source GIS software is an asset
  • Adaptable to changing course content
  • Comfortable with teaching in both online mode and in-person
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to problem solve
  • Comfortable working in a team environment

Salary Range
$56,845 to $99,571 per annum

Additional Salary Information
Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
