Full Description
Fleet & Facility Services is seeking a highly motivated, energetic and passionate individual to join the Fueling and Operations Technology team and help maintain the City’s fleet of 5000 vehicles and equipment. The Fuel Office Technician is a specialized and complex technical position with a focus on mechanical engineering. In this role, you will help manage the City’s Fuel Management System and assist in a variety of areas related to fuel and lubricant distribution including both hardware and software. You will provide technical expertise and drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.

- Manage fueling projects, including developing scope requirements and project charter
- Provide oversight on the installation and maintenance of fuel pumps and related systems
- Troubleshoot system problems and refine maintenance processes by liaising with appropriate Fleet Maintenance staff
- Support, service and coordinate fuel management systems, including EJ Ward, FuelMaster, Veeder Root, and Automotive RFID systems
- Support, service and coordinate the Canciever software and hardware installations and maintenance
- Prepare technical studies, such as scope analysis in the field and pilot testing for various environmentally friendly fuel products
- Track projects and costs using database queries/ reports to create project status reports and strategic recommendations
- Check plans, permits and other documents to ensure conformance to various codes, regulations and standards
- Provide support to vehicle on-board diagnostic system
- Manage assigned procurement projects which includes fueling tenders, lubricant tenders, and service contract tenders
- Provide technical support to fleet maintenance personnel and customers and support curriculum development
- Mentor a team of administrative staff, manage performance, and develop talent while maintaining high customer service levels
- Perform other related duties as required
- Completion of a 2 year Engineering Technology diploma in Mechanical, Civil or Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of 2 years experience related to fuel management maintenance
- Minimum of 2 years experience in the inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and repair of equipment in an industrial or construction environment
- Membership or eligibility for membership with ASET as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET)
- Completion of a Project Management certificate is an asset
- Experience in diagnostic analysis of vehicle fluids and making recommendations are considered assets
- Knowledge of applicable policies, standards and regulations pertaining to fuel, equipment, vehicles and services
- Experience in the development of Requests For Proposal (RFP) and the tendering process
- Ability to meet and deal effectively with internal and external stakeholders, such as shop staff, forepersons, supervisors, direct reports, suppliers, vendors, and equipment manufacturers
- Ability to plan and organize work activities and to meet set deadlines
- Ability to create a work culture capable of developing a high performing team
- Experience managing and working with contractors and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with precision and accuracy
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and diagrams and to design modifications and attachments
- Experience with M5 is considered an asset
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). A valid Class 3 license with airbrake (Q) endorsement is an asset. Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use for City Business

Up to 1 permanent full-time position
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary: $36.577 - $45.697 (Hourly); $76,372.780 - $95,415.340 (Annually)
