The Revenue Division of the Ministry of Finance has an exciting opportunity that will enhance your knowledge and skills in budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting as well as build relationships across the Ministry. Our candidate of choice will have strong interpersonal, analytical and computer software skills, as well as an in-depth knowledge of government accounting practices. Reporting to the Manager, Financial and Performance Reporting, you will:

work with Division Management on all aspects of budgeting and forecasting of Division expenditures and all tax revenues administered by the Division ($4.2 billion annually); provide research and analysis for use by Ministry staff in developing budgets and forecasting revenues and expenditures; prepare briefings and reports of the results of your analysis; organize all cut-off and reporting procedures required by the Division to record expenditures and revenue appropriately in the Government's financial statements; use the Government's MIDAS accounting system to ensure that all revenues earned by the Ministry of Finance are budgeted, and forecasts are updated on a timely basis; and, as a financial analyst it is expected that you will be available to work during specific business cycles to ensure that the various critical reporting deadlines are met (ex. quarter end, year-end).

To qualify for this position, you will have knowledge of:

  • research and analysis through the understanding and use of generally accepted statistical, analytical, forecasting and research methodologies, tools and techniques; and
  • International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the Government's accounting policies and practices.

Typically, the knowledge required for this position would be obtained through the completion of post-secondary education resulting in a degree or diploma focused on accounting, though candidates demonstrating related education and/or experience maybe considered. A professional accounting designation (CPA) and knowledge of MIDAS financial system would be an asset.
