About Us
The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety’s Legislative District Security Unit (LDSU) is an armed and uniformed operational entity that was created pursuant to the Legislative Assembly Amendment Act, 2021. The amendment created a new “Legislative District” and the Legislative District Security Unit responsible to provide security to the Legislative District.
The Opportunity
The Legislative District Security Unit (LDSU) is seeking a Director, Legislative District Security to manage the overall security of the Legislative District ensuring the safety of all who work and visit the legislative building and grounds.
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Policing and Community Safety Services, the Director, Legislative District Security is responsible for:
- Ensuring that regular security risk assessments are completed and in collaboration with other stakeholders will take action to keep the Legislative District both safe and secure.
- Developing, determining, implementing, and enforcing security policy and procedures of the Legislative District Security Unit.
- Directing investigations into sensitive issues including Criminal Code offences that affect the security of Elected Officials, Executive Council, Members of the Legislative Assembly and staff within the Legislative Building while maintaining a high level of tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
- Liaising with provincial, federal, and international protocol officers to coordinate security provisions for diplomatic and VIP visits to the Legislature.
- Coordinating and establishing security protocol requirements with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Canadian Security Intelligence Services, Canada Border Services Agency, Sergeant-at-Arms, Community Safety Officers, Central Services, Municipal Police Services and the Provincial Protective Services branch within the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety on a regular basis.
- Ensuring groups demonstrating at the Legislative Assembly (planned or unplanned) are informed regarding security requirements, legislation and established policies that maintain a balance between free expression of views, public order, and the requirement to maintain regular government operations and freedom of access to the Legislative grounds and building.
- Managing a unit of highly trained and armed security personnel in a high-profile environment.
- Managing contractual security resources employed to provide supplementary security functions at access and egress points off the legislative building.
- Ensuring that personal qualifications in the use of issues firearms and intervention equipment are maintained along with the qualifications of all armed LDSU members. Qualifications will be consistent with the Saskatchewan Police College standards.

Typically, the knowledge, skills and experience required for this position would have been obtained through:
- Proven experience as a senior level leader in a law enforcement environment.
- The completion of a graduate degree or college diploma in police science, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field is preferred. A combination of experience, education and training may substitute for formal education.
- Documented years of law enforcement experience and management experience, a portion of which spent in a senior police-executive role.
- Advanced knowledge of law enforcement, legislation, and policy regarding public safety.
- Advanced knowledge of national and international policing issues, philosophies, practices, and trends.
- Advanced knowledge of current law enforcement management theory and administrative standards.
- Budgeting and financial practices applicable to law enforcement.
- Advanced knowledge of governance structures.
- Experience in dealing with the media and community relations.
- Successfully passing RCMP and/or governmental enhanced security screening.
- Have extensive training and be able to utilize a variety of intervention equipment such as a sidearm, defensive baton, conducted energy weapons and OC spray.
