The Ontario Director, Government Relations will be accountable for developing and executing on a government and stakeholder relations strategy to advance LifeLabs’ strategic objectives and reputation with government and other stakeholders and support the successful negotiation of key government contracts.

Core Accountabilities
Develop, implement, and oversee a government relations and stakeholder engagement strategy through all phases of the lifecycle of LifeLabs’ Ontario government / public sector contracts including prior to and during periods of contract negotiations and provincial and federal elections.
Develop effective relationships with key government leaders, administrators, and political leaders to advance the implementation of LifeLabs’ strategies.
Ensure full engagement with key stakeholders and community leaders, provincial governments, and agencies
Develop and articulate, in concert with internal subject matter experts, the company’s impact, relevance and value proposition to the government
Position LifeLabs with policymakers and represent LifeLabs with decision makers and other health care stakeholders
Responsible for development and execution of advocacy strategies and accountable for outcomes
Identify critical opportunities and challenges in policy environment based on strategic business objectives and development
Identify key decision-makers and influencers in policy and political space; ensure positioning, challenges and issues are communicated effectively.
Ensure Government Affairs’ activities are timed and positioned with other functional areas within LifeLabs to gain leverage, provide a cohesive voice, and ensure a smooth intersection of programs
Identify and support advocacy efforts with industry leading associations and bodies on behalf of the lab sector and employees.
Engage with public sector stakeholders to build relationships, understand priorities, conduct research, represent, and advocate for LifeLabs’ interests and objectives
Engage with representatives of senior government officials in planning visits/tours and receptions
Support advocacy efforts with industry leading associations and bodies on behalf of the lab sector and employees
Work with ELT, SLT, managers to support the development of government relations initiatives, supporting both local and program-specific initiatives

Required Experience:
University or College graduate in a related field.
A minimum of 7 years of experience working in government, issues management, corporate communications, public relations, or media.
Strong government and public relations acumen, including deep knowledge of various levels of government.
Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships.
Excellent writing and editing skills; experience translating technical and sensitive or confidential information for various audiences.
Strong issues management and public relations.
Experience developing and implementing government relations plans.
Proven experience building and maintaining brand presence to help achieve an organizational vision.
Strong time management skills with minimal need for oversight.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Project management skills.
Results-oriented and client-focused with a commitment to excellence.
