The Edmonton Public Library (EPL) is looking for two highly motivated Librarians to join our team. This temporary opportunity is a chance to show that you have the right stuff to contribute to a dynamic organization. We are looking for a Librarian who are passionate about improving library services and reducing barriers.

Under the direction of the Director, Branch Services and Collections, the Collections Assessment and User Analysis Intern Librarian will employ research and assessment methods to conduct an in-depth analysis of EPL’s physical and digital collections and shifting user trends. The Intern will compare and analyze EPL’s physical and digital collections; assess usage patterns throughout the City of Edmonton and identify underserved populations or communities. A key deliverable of the internship will be to undertake an investigation into the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and assess the degree to which customer usage patterns shifted throughout the pandemic period.

Under the direction of the Director, Branch Services and Community Engagement, this position will develop a report on digital inclusion trends, including researching industry best practices and standards and providing recommendations for the Edmonton Public Library to consider implementing 2023. The Digital Inclusion Research Librarian will research digital inclusion barriers experienced by EPL's customers, explore innovative services and trends at large urban library systems as well as other customer service sectors with an eye to defining best practices in addressing digital exclusion. The Librarian's report(s) may include recommending novel opportunities or identifying gaps in technology (hardware and software), service design, and identifying skills or competencies that are required by staff to support customers facing digital exclusion. The work may include observational activities, surveying and piloting solutions.

Qualifications :
  • Master of Library & Information Studies degree, or equivalent, from ALA-accredited institution is required.

  • Ability to define and manage a multi-faceted complex project while meeting timelines and quality standards;
  • Demonstrated passion for and experience in service to library customers;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong customer service orientation;
  • Superb organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong skills and demonstrated aptitude in desktop computing, use of web tools, and library technologies;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and to contribute as a member of the Branch Services Team;
  • Imagination, creativity, and risk taking are key skills;

Note: You must have the ability to travel within the City of Edmonton.

Pay Band:
$38.56 - $49.22 per hour*
  • Approximately $70,463 - $89,930 per annum based on a 35 hour work week.
Shift differential may apply in accordance with the terms and conditions of the CSU 52 Collective Agreement.
