The Child Care Support Worker is responsible for providing care and overall support of the children and teens residing in Emergency Placement Resources homes. They supervise the day-to-day functions of those in care to ensure that youth are maintaining a safe and healthy living environment.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be able to work shift work/flexible hours which includes days, evenings, overnights and weekends
  • Physically capable of performing the duties of the position including lifting up to 25 Kilograms or 55 pounds
  • Physically capable of completing Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training
  • First Aid and CPR "level C" certification
  • Must provide satisfactory Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry, Adult Abuse Registry and Prior Contact Checks

Qualifications:
Essential:

  • Experience working with children in a supportive manner as a caring adult role model
  • Experience providing guidance, support and supervision to children throughout their daily activities
  • Knowledge of child development and behaviour
  • Knowledge of the effects of abuse and neglect of a child
  • Ability to work with children and youth from diverse cultural and social backgrounds
  • Excellent problem solving skills with the ability to assess various situations to determine the degree of risk to the clients and mitigate accordingly
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with children, co-workers and collaterals
  • Ability to work within a team
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to document daily activities and prepare written documents with accuracy in accordance to established regulations and guidelines

Desired:
  • Experience working with high risk/high needs children

Duties:
Major duties and responsibilites include: providing quality care, support, and a safe comfortable home environment to children with emotional and behavioral issues; supporting children’s emotional and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self concepts. Helping children meet their personal care needs, including personal hygiene, sensitively and appropriately; and resolving conflicts and settles disputes between children. Administering prescribed medicine complying with all medicine policies including storage and record keeping; organizing, scheduling and prioritizing daily routines and recreational activities. Advocating for and assists clients to access community resources; participating in the planning and adheres to children’s Individual Safety Plan. Following all of the branch’s financial (budget and petty cash) procedures; accompanies children to and from school, family visits, appointments and outings.
