Full Description

Under the general direction of the Manager of Innovation & Technology, the Business Systems Analyst is responsible for acting as the intermediary between the business and IT, using a deep understanding of business processes and technology to help business partners achieve their desired outcomes. The analyst documents business goals and requirements, analyzes system and organizational changes required to support business goals, analyzes and designs business processes, creates functional specifications, co-designs prototypes and innovative solutions with the development team, develops project documentation and training to support organizational change, and develops and executes test plans to ensure the solution delivers the expected business value.

As the Business Systems Analyst you will:

  • Meet with decision makers, systems owners, and end users to define business needs and systems goals.
  • Solicit and document requirements or user stories through interviews, workshops, and reviews of existing documentation/procedures.
  • Perform gap analysis between current and desired future state, documenting existing business processes, analyzing the effectiveness and efficiency of these processes, defining opportunities for process improvements, assessing organizational change capability and system impacts, and making recommendations.
  • Create system and process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction and support business process improvement and innovation.
  • Develop and support the creation of Request for Proposals (RFP) and Business Cases.
  • Partner with technical team to interpret business needs and assist in solution design and evaluation.
  • Work with other project resources to design, conduct, and analyze tests in order to discover and report any defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues, and interoperability flaws.
  • Provide guidance in user acceptance testing.
  • Develop departmental computer standards and policies.
  • Document the technical and operational environment.
  • Prepare service requests and service response documents.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the classification, as assigned.

Your education and qualifications include:

  • A University Degree in a related discipline (Computer Science, Engineering or Business Administration) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • At least 3 years of progressive business systems analysis experience.
  • Experience leading the analysis effort on major initiatives.
  • Experience in process and data modelling and analysis.
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders to surface strategic business needs/ goals.
  • Experience in creating test plans, writing test cases, and software application testing.
  • Experience in implementing SharePoint, FileNet, or other Enterprise Content Management systems would be an asset.
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills with ability to produce clear and concise business requirements and functional specifications.
  • Verbal communication skills; able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and with external departments and organizations.
  • Ability to lead/ facilitate requirements workshops and design sessions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
  • Strong knowledge of business analysis principles and best practices.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of IT concepts and IT project life cycle.
