Who you are

An effective Business Development Manager in our organization is one who can effectively build a relevant network of business contacts and leverage that network to identify, pursue and win new opportunities essential to our organizational growth and expansion.

As the Business Development Manager, you will be calling on Public and Private Sector accounts, such as Local Governments, Alberta Health, Public Housing organizations, Government Ministries, Post-Secondary Institutions and a variety of other similar organizations. You have a passion for creative deal making, are comfortable in the C suite and have a network of senior people you can call upon. You understand organizational politics and are able to help facilitate change.

Working collaboratively with the Vice President, Directors, Principals, Senior Project Managers, Marketing and Proposal Team Members and other Business Development Managers, you will lead the implementation of annual business plans, be responsible for generating and responding to leads and providing sales and marketing support to business unit team members.

  • You understand the consulting business and have a passion to win projects that make an impact on the community in which we serve.
  • Initiation and nurturing of prospective client relationships to seek out and secure specific opportunities where Colliers Project Leaders’ experience and expertise can be leveraged
  • Provide support to marketing and sales efforts with existing clients, including exploring opportunities to sell new and expanded service offerings
  • Ability to collaborate with the marketing team on targeted strategies and presentation material
  • Assessment of networking opportunities in the region from a business development perspective and assume a leadership role to plan and participate in relevant events, conferences and speaking opportunities
  • The ability to play a major role in setting and achieving annual and monthly sales objectives and targets for the region along with the Vice President, Director of Business Development and other Business Development Managers
  • An aptitude for developing and maintaining detailed knowledge of the company’s products, services and business approach as well as competitors’ activity and offerings within the region
  • Proven history of working with highly skilled, technically minded professionals
Qualifications:
  • A university degree or college diploma in business administration, commerce, marketing or a combination of relevant academic and practical experience
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar business development, sales or marketing role for professional services, public affairs or consulting firms, or other non-commodity sales environments
  • Previous experience in project management, design, construction or real estate industry environments is a strong asset
  • Previous experience developing and executing tactical sales plans as well as regularly exceeding established quotas and account objectives
  • Established network of public and private sector contacts in Alberta, within priority market segments such as Municipal & Provincial Governments, Healthcare, Education, Infrastructure, Transportation, and/or Indigenous Communities.
  • The ability to acquire and maintain strong networks of influential industry contacts within the region as well as maintain involvement with applicable regional and national industry and trade associations.
  • Drive, ambition and the ability to work collaboratively while holding others accountable in a matrix organization.
  • A confident public speaker, Toastmaster training is a plus
  • A skilled Facilitator
