Salary: Level 12 Step 1 ($4,943.68 bi-weekly)

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Intergovernmental Relations & Governance is a senior management position within Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Government (TH) with the overall responsibility for leading intergovernmental relations and governance initiatives. This position collaborates with TH Council and senior management staff to develop TH Government strategies and procedures for engagement and to advance key priorities externally. The incumbent will perform a wide range of functions including, research and assessment of political developments and opportunities, liaison with other governments, and advising TH Council on all matters relating to intergovernmental affairs.

An Eligibility List may be established from this competition – the duration of the eligibility list may be up to 12 months. The eligibility list may be used to fill future permanent full-time, permanent part-time, temporary full-time, temporary part-time, term, or auxiliary on-call vacancies within the same department and classification based on the organizational needs by going the next highest ranked candidate until the eligibility list expires.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree in Political Science, Intergovernmental Relations, Indigenous Governance / Studies, Business or Public Administration, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills and knowledge may be considered.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience and training in a similar role.
  • Proven experience providing political, policy, or strategic advice to senior officials and leaders from Indigenous or provincial and/or territorial governments.
  • Demonstrated formal knowledge and / or experience working within First Nation governance structures and processes.
  • Excellent knowledge of the Umbrella Final Agreement and/or modern treaties.
  • Experience working on internal and intergovernmental / cross-agency policies, strategies and action plans.
  • Ability to develop cooperative working relationships with representatives of the federal, territorial and municipal governments and other First Nations governments.
  • Excellent communication skills (writing, visual, oral) including, briefing, reports, presentations.

Assets:

  • Good working knowledge of Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in social structure, traditions, language, and cultural values.
  • Knowledge of research and policy tools / methods and experience leading policy and strategy development activities.
  • Experience building intergovernmental relationships.
  • Ability to gain the trust and cooperation of others in resolving problems and addressing concerns.
