The Saskatchewan Coroner Service, Ministry of Justice, has a challenging opportunity for a confident, dynamic, well-organized and highly-motivated professional who is capable of working in a fast-paced, demanding and high-volume work environment. Reporting to the Supervisor of Administrative Support, you will provide administrative support to the northern coroners and to the Northern Regional office staff.
Your responsibilities will include general office duties such as mail; drafting, formatting and proofreading a large volume and variety of correspondence and legal documents; creating and updating spreadsheets; maintaining paper and electronic filing systems; coding, verifying and reconciling invoices using Central Accounting procedures and entering them into the Coroners' Production database; ordering supplies; maintaining office equipment; and aiding Northern Regional staff in the preparation of PowerPoint presentations.
You will respond to inquiries made in writing, in person or by telephone from a variety of individuals and agencies, such as lay coroners, members of the public, RCMP, municipal police services, various government agencies and stakeholders such as funeral homes, transport services, lawyers and health professionals using appropriate medical and legal terminology. You will also speak directly with family members of the deceased who may be frustrated, angry, upset, grieving or distraught.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and knowledge of office and administrative practices and procedures; medical and legal terminology and processes; experience in applying accounting/financial principles, procedures and practices; computer applications including advanced word processing techniques in a Windows environment.
Typically, the competencies required in this position would be obtained through formal education such as an office administration program, combined with several years of administrative support experience.
This employment opportunity requires the employee to work 2 days one week and then 3 days the following week, for a total of 40 hrs over a two-week period. There will be opportunity during the summer months for addtional hours and when covering vacation leave.
