About Us


Role

The Manager reports functionally to the Chief Judge of the Provincial Court of Alberta and administratively to the Senior Manager Operations. There are three offices of the Chief Judge and 10 divisions in the Provincial Court.


The incumbent will be responsible for providing senior administrative, management and operational support to the Chief Judge in their role as top Judge. The incumbent will also perform the duties of court administrator, public speaker and judicial ambassador. The Manager will play a key role in planning, developing and interpreting procedures, policies, directives and systems on a wide range of complex matters relating to administrative and operational issues involving the Chief Judge and the Provincial Court. The incumbent is expected to develop and maintain formal, mission critical policy and procedures for the Office of the Chief Judge (OCJ).


The Manager liaises with the Chief Judge regarding project delivery and oversees various projects affecting the Office of the Chief Judge. The Manager must also use a forward-thinking approach to anticipate and meet the various needs of the Chief Judge and Provincial Court judiciary. They are responsible for developing and overseeing strategies to ensure all necessary research, information and administrative and operational resources and support are secured and available when required.


Additionally, in consultation with the judiciary and Legal Counsel, the Manager identifies, analyzes, recommends and implements new and improved systems or policies to enhance the operations of the Provincial Court in order to ensure that citizens of Alberta have ready and cost-effective access to justice. The incumbent is responsible for acting as a liaison and protecting and releasing certain information to other levels of court, Federal Department of Justice, Canadian Judicial Council, National Judicial Institute, Chief Judges across the Country, Deputy Ministers and Assistant Deputy Ministers of various government offices, and members of the legal profession.


This position is responsible for managing the administrative functions and resources of the OCJ, the Human Resources for the OCJ and members of the Provincial Court judiciary. The Manager has supervisory responsibility for staff within the Office of the Chief Judge

Qualifications

University degree in a related field (Office Administration Business Administration Management, supplemented by a minimum of three years of related working experience within a government environment and/or criminal justice system managing business operations in strategic planning, communications, human resources and financial management. Experience working with the Provincial Court of Alberta (legislations, directives and regulations), Court Services Division and Alberta Justice is preferred but not required. Project management certificate will be considered an asset.


Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of: one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Salary


$2,568.30 to $3,659.95 biweekly ($67,032.00 to $95.524.00 yearly)

This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15AM – 4:30PM, 36.25 hours a week.
