About Our Opportunity


We are looking for a post-secondary student to work with a passionate team of professional staff to assist with the redevelopment of website content for our private land Outreach & Education programs (https://novascotia.ca/natr/plso/)


Primary Accountabilities


Your primary project will be working with Outreach & Education staff to complete a comprehensive analysis of the current website content, identifying gaps and opportunities, and create new and updated website content to support our outreach programs. This work will connect you with other parts of government to assist with this project (Communications Nova Scotia, Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services for example).


Another project you will be working with the provincial outreach forester to assist with the creation of the Private Woodland Home Study Modules (https://woodlot.novascotia.ca/) in a Moodle platform. This work will not only be the creation of the core modules in Moodle, but will also expand to create an interactive and accessible experience for a broad range of public accessing these resources. Supplementing this work will be the design and roll-out of a social media plan to build awareness, promote and increase public engagement both on our website and social media platforms.


Additionally, you will support the work on Outreach and Education projects and initiatives which may include working on the following:

  • Producing newsletters and education materials for client groups
  • Database maintenance and updating
  • Responding to information requests
  • Creating content for targeted keyword searches

Qualifications and Experience


You must be a full-time post-secondary student in the field of public relations or communications, marketing, journalism, natural resources or environmental science or other related discipline and returning to school in fall 2022.


You will be familiar using standard Microsoft office and Moodle (or similar) software, creating content for websites and social media platforms. You must have strong organizational, communication (written and verbal), time management and interpersonal skills. You are capable of working both independently and as part of a team.


The following are considered assets:

  • Project management experience
  • Website content strategy experience
  • Experience in understanding Google/Facebook analytics
  • Natural Resources (Forestry, Wildlife, Biology, Geoscience, Energy for example) or Environmental Science education/experience

We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.


Working Conditions


This position will work mostly in an office environment with regular business hours. Candidates selected for interviews may be required to submit a Driver’s Abstract, Criminal Records and Child Abuse Registry check.

The location of this position is Halifax. The start date will be May 2, 2022 with an anticipated end date of August 26, 2022.
