Nova Scotia Environment and Climate Change’s role is to protect the environment, human health and farm animal through regulatory excellence, conservation, partnership, and promotion. About Our Opportunity

As the Sustainable Communities Challenge Fund Coordinator, you will support the development and oversight of the Sustainable Communities Challenge Fund (SCCF). The SCCF is a commitment of the Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act (EGCCRA).

Primary Accountabilities

Meaningful action on climate change involves collaboration and partnerships with diverse communities and stakeholders. The purpose of the SCCF is to support communities and municipalities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change. You will lead and work collaboratively with a non-government organization and staff across multiple government departments on program design, project management, program evaluation, tendering, contract negotiation and oversight and reporting.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful within this role, you will have a bachelor’s degree and 6 years related experience. An MPA or MBA or degree in business, finance, planning, economics, engineering, or accounting would be considered an asset.

As the successful candidate, you will have demonstrated experience in project management, budget management, contract development and oversight, public reporting, and stakeholder engagement. You will have demonstrated experience in program and project funding preferably at a municipal and or community level. You will also have demonstrated experience in the climate change sector and a proven ability to distill complex issues into actionable policies and programs.

Knowledge of the provincial climate change policy context, the Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act and the Province’s climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies and funding programs would be considered an asset. Knowledge and/or experience with climate change programs, policies and projects that can be pursued at a local level (e.g., by municipalities) would be considered an asset. Knowledge and/or experience with community-led initiatives in racialized and marginalized communities would be considered an asset.

In addition to the above you will:

  • have excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, presentation and consultation skills.
  • be able to work independently and engage effectively with senior decision makers.
  • work well under pressure and provide fast turn around when immediate results are required by senior decision makers.
  • have the ability and desire to forge strong relationships of trust and collaboration across all levels of government and communities.


An equivalent combination of training, education and experience will be considered. Applicants relying on education and experience equivalencies must demonstrate such equivalencies in their application.

Equivalent experience and training include, but are not limited to:

  • Minimum 10 years of related experience in Business, Finance, Planning, Economics, Engineering or Accounting.

Pay Grade: PR 17

Salary Range: $2,913.59 - $3,421.98 Bi-Weekly
