SAFETY & CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT MANAGER
To be based in Dieppe, NB

Irving Tissue produces both branded and private label bathroom tissue, facial tissue, paper towels, and napkins.


We are currently accepting applications for the role of Safety & Continuous Improvement Manager.

This position reports to the Plant Manager and functions as a member of the site Leadership Team. Primary responsibilities will include managing initiatives and actively encouraging the implementation of HSE best practices to reach our goal of zero lost time accidents. This role is also the link between operations and finance and will adapt to the changing needs and requirements of the business. Strong initiative and creativity are essential to anticipate and identify potential challenges early. This will require an individual who is data savvy and possesses exceptionally strong analytical skills.

The Successful Candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Education Required: Post-secondary education in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Years of experience required: 5+ years of progressive and leadership experience within a manufacturing industry.
  • Safety designation would be an asset but not required,
  • Lean Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certified would be an asset,
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills with experience in leading change
  • Excellent communication skills, comfortable presenting up to senior level audiences
  • Ability to influence with and without authority

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement 3-year safety plan and manage site initiatives
  • Provide ongoing support as required to management in the effective execution of HSE programs and initiatives
  • Responsible for the accuracy of the Incident Data Base and the generation of required reports and balanced scorecards
  • Manage all incidents to ensure proper investigation and root causes are arrived at with proper corrective actions implemented
  • Perform incident/injury analysis
  • Manage the HSE inspection and audit process programs
  • Ensure the facility is compliant with all provincial and federal regulations and requirements
  • Review and update as required, existing policies, programs, and procedures in consultation with key stakeholders and the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Lead and support the business improvement strategy for the site. This includes identifying opportunities, establishing, and determining workgroup objectives, determining timelines, ensuring robust measures and controls, resources requirements, and follow up.
  • Ensure that the initiatives are aligned to support delivery of the site's vision, purpose, and strategy, develop, and implement an efficient and effective Irving Management System (IMS) across functional groups to ensure sustainable business improvement, and provide critical information in support of strategic and operating decisions.
  • Lead and execute improvement initiatives utilizing methodologies and tools such as DMAIC, PDCA, RCA, VSM, SPC and Kaizen.
  • Plan and facilitate kaizen events, workshops, and focus groups.
  • Coach and train others in the application of Lean Six Sigma processes.
