The Ministry of SaskBuilds and Procurement, Northern Property Management branch, requires a permanent full-time Journeyperson Plumber/Gasfitter for the Correctional facility in Prince Albert.

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, you will provide general repairs and preventative maintenance on various buildings, systems and equipment within the Correctional Centre. The duties would include performing scheduled preventative maintenance work orders, minor construction projects, as well as assisting in reactionary repairs to all major building systems and water treatment/water waste operations of the facility.

You will keep records and logs of operation, repairs and materials, and enter into the ARCHIBUS maintenance system. You must be able and willing to work in physically demanding conditions and perform physical labour, heavy lifting and climbing. You will also have knowledge of tools, equipment and regulations governing trades work associated with electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, carpentry and water treatment/waste water systems.

To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • possess a valid journeyperson plumber/gasfitter certificate; and
  • possess a Fireman’s Certificate and Refrigeration Operators Certificate and/or a 5th Class Engineer’s Certificate or may be considered if candidate can obtain certificate(s) within 6 months of employment; and
  • HVAC experience would be considered an asset

The successful candidate will be responsible, flexible and adaptable in order to meet new challenges in a correctional centre environment; well organized and able to work well under tight deadlines; thorough, conscientious and attentive to detail to ensure quality work; reliable and a team player.

The successful candidate will be required to to work a rotating weekend shift once every six weeks and a 24 hour for seven (7) days standyby rotation once every six weeks.

In accordance with The Public Employers’ COVID-19 Emergency Regulations and the Government of Saskatchewan’s COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Policy, all employees shall either be fully vaccinated or provide evidence of a valid negative COVID-19 test result at least every seven (7) days. COVID-19 testing shall occur during non-work hours, with any associated costs covered by the successful candidate.
