Position Overview

The Engineering, Parks & Environment department requires a temporary, full-time Development Technician until approximately December 2022. You will perform technical work in the administration and control of subdivision, private development and contract operations.

Responsibilities
The Development Services team is responsible for ensuring developments conform to all off- site (public realm) requirements, such as site servicing, access, streetscape construction, subdivision conditions, etc. As a member of the team, you will analyze, check and process applications and engineering works associated with land development, subdivision, rezoning, building permits, and utility company proposals. In addition, you will ensure conformance and adherence to requirements, standards, regulations and bylaws; evaluate effect on municipal services; prepare cost estimates for construction of municipal services; prepare work permits; inspect work in the field; interpret requirements and policies for developers, agents and contractors; resolve construction conflicts; and respond to public enquiries related to development.

Requirements
You will have related experience, preferably in municipal engineering practices, servicing design, land development processing including review and inspection as well as good written and oral communication. A certificate or diploma in Civil Engineering technology, or a combination of related experience and education is required. Preference will be given to candidates that are eligible for registration with ASTTBC. Proficiency in AutoCAD and a valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License are required.

Compensation
$36.39 to $42.96 per hour
(Pay Grade 23 – January 2021 rates)

Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.

Additional Information
For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
