    Hourly Rate and Wage Grade: $28.93 - $31.71 per hour

Major Responsibilities:

  • Loads and unloads trailers with signage, information and miscellaneous materials for Environment Day events.
  • Staffs displays and provides information to the public regarding services, programs, etc., and environmental issues. Provides vehicular and pedestrian traffic control.
  • Takes in revenue from the public for selling products and reconciles this money with the numbers of products sold. (Solid Waste Management Services Division)
  • Prepares reconciliation, bank deposits, courier deliveries and information packages. Enters data, answers public phone enquiries, faxes and photocopies. (Solid Waste Management Services Division)
  • Maintains display literature and keeps supplies available for the public to take.
  • Takes inventory of supplies and estimates information needed for next venue to secure ample distribution materials.
  • Reads reports, memos, articles and brochures relating to position to keep up to date and become more fully informed.
  • Dismantles displays and packs up literature, displays, recyclable materials, etc. at the closing of an event.
  • Connect and transport trailer to events and safely connect it to water supply (Toronto Water Division)

Key Qualifications:

Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Studies or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. (If interested in Solid Waste Management Services vacancy)
  • Experience in reconciling monies with products sold for the purposes of bank deposits. (If interested in Solid Waste Management Services vacancy)
  • Experience in providing excellent customer service and dealing with members of the public
  • Experience and proficiency working with various software applications such as MS Office Suite (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access) and utilizing databases and work order systems to generate reports.
  • Experience in the safe and efficient operation of all vehicles, equipment and special attachments related to duties of this position (If interested in Toronto Water vacancy only)
  • Must possess and be able to maintain a valid Provincial of Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and must qualify for the City's equipment operating permits and certificates required for this work (i.e. cube van, trailers under 4600kg and pickup truck). You must also have:

  • Knowledge of Toronto Water programs, services, policies and water issues such as water efficiency, stormwater management, and water quality (If interested in Toronto Water vacancy)
  • Broad knowledge of waste management practices inclusive of waste reduction, reuse and recycling, and disposal (including the curbside collection program, mixed plastics, and Transfer Station operations). (If interested in Solid Waste Management Services vacancy only)
  • Strong understanding of complexities and risks associated with running water trailer program and an ability to act accordingly when making operational decisions (If interested in Toronto Water vacancy)
  • Knowledge of environmental initiatives.
  • Ability to handle detailed work with accuracy.
  • Willingness and ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to write in clear and legible manner
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings and weekdays and to report to various work locations in a timely manner as operationally required
  • Ability to work as a team player and team leader
  • Must be physically capable of performing required duties, including ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
  • Possession of a valid Province of Ontario Class "G" Driver's Licence is considered an asset (If interested in Solid Waste Management Services vacancy only)
