About Us


Role

Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park in the South Region of the Alberta Parks system is looking for Caretakers for the 2022 summer season. The unique landscape of the area contrasts the surrounding prairie landscapes, making it an exciting destination for campers and day users alike.

Caretaker duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning and disinfecting of park facilities, including the Visitor Centre, administration office, campground washrooms, shower houses, days use areas, staff accommodations, and comfort camping units
  • Daily collection of garbage and recycling
  • Safe operation of cleaning appliances, use of chemical cleaners, lifting and carrying
  • Following Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) practices and procedures
  • Regular servicing of caretaking vehicles
  • Interacting with the public in a professional manner and maintaining a positive visitor experience

Qualifications

Education:

  • Some high school education; high school diploma preferred plus 6 months of related cleaning or custodial experience

Successful candidate will also have the following:

  • Good judgment and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physically fit as this is a physically demanding position
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s license

Assets:

  • WHMIS training
  • Valid Standard First Aid + CPR Level C/AED
  • Familiarity with Occupational Health and Safety Standards (OH&S) practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of Cypress Hills Provincial Park (Elkwater) facilities and services

Salary

$22.74 to $24.09 per hour

Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.

  • 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays
  • 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay

Notes

Terms of Employment

  • Fulfill seasonal contract (anticipated May – September)
  • Access to reliable transportation to and from place of work
  • Position may require some outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions
  • Must provide 5-year driver’s abstract issued within 30 days of application submission with no more than 8 demerits (4 demerits for GDL)
  • Must provide defensive driving certificate from within the last 3 years, or obtain upon hiring, prior to first day of work
  • Training will be provided to successful candidates
  • Onsite staff accommodations may be available for rent
  • Hours of work are up to 7.25 hours/day, and up to 36.25 hours/week.
  • Evening, weekend and holiday work may be required
