Are you interested in gaining experience in the insurance industry? SGI CANADA is currently looking for temporary, full - time Property Claims Adjusters .

We are currently hiring across all Saskatchewan locations. Please make note of your location preference in your Resume or Cover Letter at the time of application.


This is technical insurance work in the adjustment of property claims. The Adjuster 1 (Property) is responsible for the adjustment of a variety of property claims of a less complex nature. The Adjuster 1 (Property) conducts site visits to determine the scope of the damage or loss. Initially, the Adjuster 1 (Property) works under close supervision and direction but as experience and expertise is gained, work is performed according to general direction where discretion and judgment are exercised.


Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments

  • Interviews customers, taking initial reports of claims and collecting all pertinent loss information.

  • Conducts site visits to determine the scope of the damage or loss, which, depending on the nature of the claim, may require the use of a ladder.

  • Sets up claim files, determines cause of loss, establishes and adjusts reserves, and completes all necessary reporting forms and documents.

  • Disburses all necessary claims forms and documents for completion by the customer.

  • Determines coverage and/or validity of claims through policy wordings and/or other related acts and their regulations.

  • Explains coverages, benefits, breaches of condition, exclusions, to customers and/or their representatives, brokers, or other parties as required.

  • Contacts and/or interviews other SGI personnel, brokers, customers, witnesses, third parties, outside adjusters, contractors, retail or repair firms, police and fire departments, legal representatives, medical professionals or other external persons as required.

  • Obtains statements under oath, proofs of loss, non-waiver agreements, medical reports, final releases, salvage releases, and other documents related to the settlement and disposition of claims.

  • Prepares estimates of damage or loss where required.

  • Responds to questions and/or correspondence regarding the current status and disposition of claim files.

  • Maintains claims records and files in a current and orderly fashion according to departmental, divisional, and/or corporate procedures and standards.

  • Determines actual cash value and/or replacement cost of customers’ articles.

  • Refers claims of a large dollar magnitude or of a suspicious and/or contentious nature to the proper level of authority.

  • Assesses degree of negligence in claims of liability.

  • Determines possibility of subrogation and takes appropriate action.

  • Negotiates settlements with customers and/or representatives.

  • Recommends approval, prepares claim files for legal action, further investigation by other personnel and/or denial.

  • Reconciles invoices against estimate of damage or loss.

  • Processes file accounts and expenses for payment and submits for approval where required.

  • When required, represents the interests of the corporation in Small Claims Court, the Rates Appeal Board, and/or other judicial, legal, institutional or regulatory groups or bodies.

Knowledge and Skill

  • Knowledge of the insurance coverages and benefits provided by the policy wordings and related legislation applicable to Property claims.

  • Knowledge of insurance theory and the principles, practices, methods, and techniques related to the adjustment and settlement of Property claims.

  • Skill in determining values, depreciation, repair or replacement costs (including the use of estimating systems) applicable to Property claims.

Education and Experience

  • Applicant required to enroll in the CIP course as per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

  • Valid operator's licence in the appropriate driver classification.

Additional Information:

The Government of Saskatchewan has implemented The Public Employer's COVID-19 Emergency Regulations requiring all public sector employees, including SGI and SGI CANADA Insurance Services Ltd. (regardless of region) to be fully vaccinated or provide routine proof of a negative test result. If individuals are invited for in-person interviews they will be required to provide proof of full vaccination or a negative test result taken within the last 72 hours.

Pay Range:$53,520.00 - $66,852.00
