The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety has a career opportunity for self-confident and positive role models to work in the Prince Albert Correctional Centre (PACC), as a permanent part-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is responsible for providing a fair justice system that upholds the law and protects the rights of all individuals in Saskatchewan; promotes safe and secure communities; and provides legal and justice policy advice to assist government.

We are seeking compassionate, respectful and empathetic individuals who are eager to contribute in a positive way to the challenges of working in an adult correctional centre/youth custody facility. The successful candidate will be a professional who will commit to teamwork and will have effective communication and interpersonal skills. Our candidate of choice will work with a team of health care professionals to provide direct male client nursing care and treatment. You will maintain accurate patient records, actively promote preventative health measures, respond to medical/psychiatric emergencies with appropriate interventions and assess medical and mental conditions, making referrals as needed.

You must have a valid BLS-CPR/AED with oxygen therapy and airway management certificate with three months remaining at time of hire. You must have knowledge of medical and psychiatric theories and related intervention strategies; drug/alcohol withdrawal indicators and effects; communicable diseases in a correctional population; public health issues and risk factors; and knowledge of multi-cultural beliefs, values and perspectives.

  • The successful candidate will work day, evening, week and/or weekend shifts.
  • The successful candidates must be an advocate for their patients, be honest and reliable, and treat everyone with dignity and respect. They must also be committed to the pursuit of excellence, exhibit leadership and professionalism, embrace diversity and equality, and be responsible and accountable.

This position requires full range of practical nursing knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to meet the standards of practice and code of conduct inherent with current active registration with SALPN. Typically, this knowledge is obtained through a two-year diploma program from an approved post-secondary education institution.
