About the position

This is a locally engaged staff position at an overseas Australian Diplomatic Mission.

Visa Processing Officers (VPOs) are responsible for assessing and deciding temporary and permanent visa applications within strictly defined parameters. The successful candidate will have the ability to interpret and apply legislation and policy, prepare correspondence and decision records and communicate with clients from diverse backgrounds, their families and advisors. VPOs are responsible for responding to general client enquires which may be over the phone, via email or in person. Where appropriate the VPO will be required to escalate more complex enquires appropriately. The role involves some basic interviewing, research, data entry and analysis activities and assists with verifications and checks related to visa applications.

VPOs work under the direction of the Visa Operations Manager and in a co-operative team environment while taking responsibility for managing their own workload. VPOs work against established priorities and procedures and may exercise some autonomy about how work tasks are performed. VPOs must show initiative and flexibility to ensure a harmonious and effective working environment.
