New job Senior Business Partner, Investments in Alberta

Reporting to the Director, Investment Services, the Senior Business Partner will perform due diligence and make investment recommendations on a spectrum of early to later stage enterprises, bringing together business and technical analysis of the industry as well as the individual opportunity. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a passion for impactful investments as well as the skills to analyze business plans and financial statements, develop proforma financial statements, and work with financial valuation models. This role will work with all areas of Alberta Innovates and various client-facing advisors to help identify investments that support Alberta’s economic growth.

Job Details
Summarizing business, financial and technical in a timely due diligence into an investment recommendation
Financial analysis and modeling
Market assessments
Business plan analysis
Developing Market Intelligence reports for specific technology verticals
Liaising with internal and external clients to manage a portfolio of investments aligned with AI mandate and outcomes.
Developing and maintaining networks outside of AI, and with other funding conduits and professional service providers to ensure strong due diligence.
Analysis of contractual obligations related to technology deployment.
Understanding enterprise cycle from start-ups, scale and growth in technology businesses
Maintaining confidentiality of client information.
Continuous improvement mindset.

Qualifications and skills we are looking for:
A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Commerce, Economics, Sciences, Engineering, or equivalent with emphasis on analytical skills.
MBA or CPA designation preferred.
Experience with fraudulent activities and financial anomalies would be considered an asset
Exposure to mergers and acquisitions in a consulting, corporate or private equity environment is an asset.
Minimum of four years in management consulting, private equity or venture capital, commercial/investment banking or working with or for a technology based SME.
Desmonstrated experience in analysis of financial information
Demonstrated business sense in a diversified set of industries.
Demonstrated track record of achievements and commitment to excellence.
Experience with growing and developing SMEs in the technology commercialization space. Experience in communicating constructive feedback to help clients grow and improve. Sharp strategic mind with a creative approach to business, able to work under tight deadlines in high-stake executive environments, with a passion for accuracy and quality. Experience in Market Inteligence and Analysis to provide ad-hoc intelligence reports on various technology and market trends an asset.
Capacity to: autonomously gather information, identify important and critical issues, synthesise and articulate findings and present complex issues in simple ways.
Understanding of lean startup, agile development cycles, minimally viable product lterations, redictable revenue techniques, taction metrics would be an asset.
Proven project management and organizational skills.
Comfortable working with incomplete information and ability to make intelligent assumptions to produce high level estimates.
Strong skills in technology commercialization.
Willingness to challenge, question and investigate facts.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
