Overview / Responsibilities:
Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions, a division of Wood Canada Ltd. (Wood), is currently seeking an NWT Regional Lead in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (NWT).

Wood Canada has years of experience in northern Canada and aims to further increase our presence there by offering a full suite of environmental and engineering services particularly in the mining, power, environmental reclamation, and transportation sectors. Wood is aware of the focus of northern communities on increasing their resilience and sustainability in response to a changing climate and is able to provide practical solutions to the North. The position will report into the Western Canada Environment and Regulatory function of Wood and to Project Managers for project-specific activities.

The ultimate goal of the position is to identify, pursue and win work in the North and advance the Wood name as a key supplier in the region.

ey Responsibilities

The position will be responsible for:
  • Actively representing Wood and its interests in the NWT as the point-of-contact for Wood in the NWT
  • Establishing and maintaining contacts for Wood in the NWT with decision makers, prospective clients, and potential business partners
  • Facilitating the introduction of Wood business and project leaders to appropriate government, business, and community contacts in the NWT
  • Building a positive awareness of Wood capabilities in supplying services in the NWT among governments, project proponents, Indigenous businesses, and communities
  • Identifying potential business opportunities and promoting Wood participation through mutually beneficial strategic and project-specific agreements
  • Developing, implementing, and stewarding to a plan to increase Wood’s active projects in the NWT
  • Networking with Wood client, sector, and service line leaders across North America, as necessary, to support business development and promote Wood services
  • Participating in the preparation of competitive proposals in response to government or industry opportunities
  • Assembling and managing teams for the purposes of bidding for and the execution of work
  • Liaising and working effectively with team members, other Wood technical specialists, clients, government agencies, Indigenous communities, and stakeholders in planning and executing work
  • Providing insight regarding the opportunities and challenges of working in the NWT
  • Promoting Wood’s Indigenous Inclusion Framework in the NWT to increase work with and for Indigenous groups, to increase employee diversity, and to increase employee Indigenous cultural awareness
  • Preparing and contributing to technical proposals, presentations, and reports
  • Providing technical input, managing, and overseeing technical projects in the North, where the project needs and roles suit your skill set
  • Working in a safe manner and promoting safe work practices at all times
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills / Qualifications:
  • University degree (graduate level preferred) in engineering or science
  • 10 – 15 years relevant experience in business development activities
  • Experience working on mining, power, infrastructure, and linear projects
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities in opportunity identification and evaluation while incorporating unique community perspectives
  • Strong relationship building skills and culturally-informed conflict resolution approaches
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong budgetary, statistical, and report presentation skills
  • Desire to provide excellent client service and commitment to continuous technical improvement
  • Ability to work independently while encouraging collaborative teams working in a strong entrepreneurial environment
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time and deliver on time and within budget
  • Fluency with the use of Microsoft 365 for Business products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to travel for work from time to time
