The* Opportunity*
The City of Grande Prairie, RCMP Department, is currently seeking a Jail Guard, you must have the ability to work as part of a team. You must have basic computer skills and knowledge. This position will be working shifts as 24 hour coverage is required, including weekends and Statutory Holidays. You must have the ability to multitask, as this environment is very busy and multiple duties occur simultaneously. You must be able to deal with interruptions and immediate demands from others in the work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the health and welfare of prisoners through both video and physical checks
  • Alert the RCMP Sargent of any threats to prisoner health and welfare
  • Inform the RCMP Sargent of any prisoners requiring medical assistance
  • Store, monitor and distribute medications for prisoners, as required
  • Prepare and provide food for prisoners
  • Keep up to date cellblock records (prisoner court activity, meals, booking in/out, etc.)
  • Document any unusual occurrences in cellblock
  • Secure prisoner belongings
  • Inform RCMP Sargent of prisoners needing phone calls or other concerns
  • Assist RCMP members with the 'booking in' process for prisoners
  • Operate the Detachment computerized prisoner booking tool (PAT)
  • Update prisoner documents

You Bring
To be successful, you will possess a High School Diploma. In addition, you should have a minimum of two years' experience working in a busy operational environment, you must be able to work in a highly confidential work environment with graphic and disturbing material and experiences. It would be considered an asset to have work experience with the Police Reporting and Occurrence System (PROS) as well as working in a law enforcement environment. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered. Preference may be given to candidates who currently possess a RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the following competencies:

Shift Work: 4 Days on, 4 Days off ; 2 Days and 2 Nights; 11 hour shifts
