Environmental Coordinator

(Temporary, Full-time)

The City of Mission’s Engineering Department is seeking a dynamic individual to join our multi- disciplinary team as a temporary, full-time Environmental Coordinator for approximately 15 months (from December 2021 to March 2023).

You will exercise considerable latitude of judgment in the application of daily routines including the administration of the City’s environmental programs and contracts regarding municipal solid waste and ecosystems management. You will monitor and provide guidance on municipal ecological activities, such as those involving development, fisheries, riparian area protection, species-at-risk, and invasive species, as well as climate action planning. You will also assist with municipal solid waste management activities including those related to curbside collection, landfill management, and recycling drop-off depots.

You may represent the City on various environmental committees, prepare RFP’s, administer contracts, complete site disclosure statement reviews and administer various bylaws. You will review plans for new and ongoing land use development proposals for ecosystem protection and conservation, as well as solid waste management. You will assist with managing the City’s landfill, curbside collection, and other environment-related invoicing, and ensuring the City meets environmental regulatory requirements. You will also provide related technical information and assistance to the general public, various government agencies, and internal City-departments.

You will possess a diploma or a degree in an environmental discipline or a related field or have an equivalent combination of education and experience. The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in solid waste management, ecosystems management, and contract administration. Completion of courses relating to riparian areas protection, and solid waste management such as the Manager of Landfill Operations certification by SWANA, would be assets. Strong computer, communications, and records management skills, are essential.

The current hourly rate for this temporary, full-time CUPE position is $46.92 plus 4.4% in lieu of all benefits. We also offer a 9-day fortnight schedule (extended hours for nine days and one day off every two weeks).
