TEAM OVERVIEW

On behalf of BCI’s clients, the Infrastructure & Renewable Resources (I&RR) team invests globally in private infrastructure businesses that provide stable long-term results. BCI’s I&RR portfolio has $20+ billion in AUM and ranks as the ninth largest institutional infrastructure investor globally. The portfolio spans a range of sectors including energy, transport, utilities, and data infrastructure as well as tangible assets in timberland and agriculture.

I&RR seeks meaningful investments in private companies enabling an active governance approach. The team invests in a variety of capacities including as a sole sponsor, co-investor, and very selectively through externally managed funds. In these capacities, the team seeks to take an active oversight role built on a foundation of trusted relationships with all stakeholders and a commitment to long-term value creation.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Analyst or Associate plays a key role in protecting, growing, and realizing the value of an international portfolio of infrastructure investments. This involves (1) taking an active role in the due diligence of prospective investments, (2) proactively engaging with portfolio companies to ensure sustained performance, and (3) collaborating within the team to identify and execute on strategic opportunities across the portfolio. The ideal candidate is curious, driven, and brings a long-term value investing mindset with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate and/or advanced graduate university degree or equivalent (e.g., MBA, CFA, CPA)

  • Up to 5 years of experience within investment management, private equity, investment banking, management consulting, corporate M&A, or other suitable background

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team, create an inclusive environment, and build lasting trust-based relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders

  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)

  • Ability to break down and solve problems through quantitative analysis

  • Understanding of private markets investing and strong financial modeling skills

  • Have an entrepreneurial spirit and strive to create positive impact (i.e., see a need, take on responsibility, and act on it)

  • Strong organizational and planning skills

Other qualifications that would be beneficial but are not required:

  • Experience in or knowledge of infrastructure, timber, or agriculture investments

  • International education and/or experience

  • Bilingual

Candidates will be assessed at the Analyst or Associate level based on a combination of their educational and work experience as it fits with these qualifications.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Analyst or Associate will be a key member of the I&RR investment team and will be actively involved in due diligence and investment underwriting, portfolio company engagement, and I&RR portfolio level strategic initiatives. However, candidates are encouraged to indicate in their application if they have a preference to focus more of their effort on activities related to either (A) due diligence and investment underwriting, or (B) portfolio company engagement.

Due Diligence and Investment Underwriting

  • Work within an integrated deal team to conduct due diligence on direct or fund investments and develop investment recommendations

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to lead technical, commercial, governance, ESG and other pertinent workstreams

  • Synthesize findings as key drivers and scenarios for valuation models as well as in preparation of executive-level investment memos and presentations

  • Develop financial models to evaluate investment opportunities using key drivers and scenarios

  • Work with the transaction team to identify risks and mitigation strategies in the underwriting

Portfolio Company Engagement

  • Evaluate and help develop business strategies, investment recommendations, budgets, and compensation schemes, as well as addressing other issues confronting Board and executive teams

  • Help ensure appropriate governance structures and processes are in place at portfolio companies

  • Update tearsheets, company KPIs, and participate in preparation of internal valuations

  • Evaluate strategic initiatives (e.g., bolt-on acquisitions; divestitures; expansion projects) and support their pursuit directly with management and through external advisors

I&RR Portfolio Level Strategic Initiatives

  • Conduct general industry, company, and fund research to support origination activities

  • Participate in strategic initiatives and industry/geography mapping to support sourcing initiatives

  • Assist in preparation of long-term and tactical portfolio strategies

  • Contribute to a body of knowledge and institutional positions on recurring asset management issues

  • Support development of tracking tools and processes to ensure sustained long-term returns and delivery of value creation initiatives
