Tantalus Community School is located in the Village of Carmacks on the traditional territory of Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation. Situated at the confluence of Yukon and Nordenskiold rivers, Carmacks is 180 kilometers north of Whitehorse on the Klondike Highway. The Village of Carmacks offers amazing hiking and recreation opportunities as well as amenities such as gym and weight room, indoor pool, youth centre, golf course, and, coming soon, a multi-functional indoor arena.

Tantalus Community School nurtures and educates around 112 students. Tantalus School strives to offer high quality instruction using the British Columbia curriculum while integrating a project and inquiry based approach. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

Bachelor of Education or equivalent;

Recent successful teaching experience (or practicum) using a differentiated and inclusive approach to address the needs of a wide range of student abilities;

Experience implementing Student Learning Plans, Student Behaviour Support Plans or Individual Education Plans would be an asset;

Experience in using assessment for, as, and of learning to inform practice and communicate learning would be an asset;

Experience providing interactive learning, project based learning and experiential learning would be an asset;

Experience and/or extra coursework in special education would be an asset;

Experience integrating First Nations ways of knowing and doing into curricular areas would be an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Strong planning and organizational skills;

Experience using a balanced literacy approach;

Ability to adapt and modify curriculum to meet a range of learning needs, while incorporating cultural values and traditions into curricular components;

Ability to support and integrate self-regulation, character education, positive well-being and restorative practices in the classroom and school setting;

Ability to work as a member of a professional team and a willingness to participate in the total school program in a time of rapid and continuing change;

Ability to work independently and motivate learners;

Knowledge and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nation students;

Use of project based learning to support curricular outcomes;

Willingness to live, work and participate as a member of a small rural community;

Class IV driver’s license would be considered an asset.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;

Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check;

Relocation may be available;

In communities outside Whitehorse, there may be affordable, shared, though sometimes modest, rental accommodation provided by Yukon Housing Corporation.
