The TELUS Government Relations team builds strong relationships with government and other stakeholders to advocate for effective legislative and regulatory frameworks. These frameworks support TELUS’ mission to enable transformative change through connectivity and harness the power of technology to help create a better quality of life for all Canadians.

You’ll be joining a diverse team that is focused on developing and delivering on TELUS’ Government Relations strategy in Alberta and British Columbia. In this exciting role you’ll support our efforts to research, analyze and communicate on key public policy matters, raise government and stakeholder awareness of TELUS’ business and our contributions to a modern, innovative and connected Western Canada, and secure support for our public policy priorities on important files.
You’ll get to flex your creative muscle and use your analysis, communications and relationship-building skills to assess and anticipate public policy matters, coordinate advocacy efforts and support key GR initiatives. Help us to synthesize information, develop strategic plans and create compelling communications and briefing materials for an internal, government or stakeholder audience.
Here’s how
  • Conduct extensive research and policy analysis to inform and help shape our broader GR strategy and create briefing materials for internal and external audiences
  • Work with key stakeholders including Public Affairs, Media Relations, Investor Relations, the business and other team members to reflect GR strategy across corporate strategy and communications
  • Support TELUS’ relationships with stakeholders including elected officials, public servants, political staff and stakeholder groups by drafting various communications materials
  • Lead special projects from idea-creation to complex strategic analysis, proposal and implementation
  • Offer thought leadership on the future of technology in our industry and its impacts on public policy including transformation, innovation, competitive trends and practices

Qualifications
You’re the missing piece of the puzzle
  • Recognized for your experience in understanding and communicating technology and public policy matters, as well as your political insight of both Alberta and BC
  • Superior knowledge of public affairs and political communication best practices, and an ability to understand complex political, policy and regulatory matters and how to communicate these in a simplified manner
  • Significant experience in a policy development, government affairs, communications, strategy or operations role in a corporate, government or political setting
  • Noted for your curious mind, which leads you to conduct in-depth research into technology and policy concepts and ideas, supporting the development of original, meaningful strategy and communications recommendations
  • Known for your ability to bring concepts and ideas to life in a compelling way, with expertise in preparing PowerPoint or Google presentations for executive-level audiences
  • With an ability to learn quickly from success or failure, you apply sound judgement and exercise leadership in times of change and ambiguity
  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Public Administration, Political Science, or Communications preferred
Great-to-haves
  • Familiarity with topical political issues in BC and Alberta.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Governments of Alberta and BC as well as the interplay between the various levels of government and key stakeholder groups.
  • Existing relationships within the Governments of Alberta or BC.
