Women in Resource Development Corporation (WRDC) is a provincial non-profit organization committed to increasing women's participation in trades and technology. With private and public funding, WRDC offers a variety of programs and services to address the challenges surrounding the attraction, recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in these sectors. Over the past 20 years, WRDC has positioned itself as a key partner for advancing gender equity in the workplace. Our charitable arm, the Educational Resource Centre (ERC), was created in 2002, to provide hands-on learning and career exploration opportunities for younger women and girls in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Research & Evaluation, the Research Consultant is responsible for assisting in the planning, execution, and evaluation of WRDC and ERC programs. They will also manage research projects and ad hoc requests related to literature reviews, data collection, data management, program evaluation and policy analysis. The incumbent will also provide written and oral reports and/or status updates on assigned projects and ad hoc requests. A sophisticated level of professionalism, confidentiality and discretion is crucial.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to…
- Assisting with research according to specific study protocols
- Conducting computerized searches/literature reviews and collecting, reviewing, organizing, and managing research articles/other documents
- Developing and facilitating workshops and/or meetings; coordinating logistics, scheduling and communications, attending meetings, and recording, transcribing, and distributing minutes
- Coordinating and conducting participant recruitment activities and mixed methods data collection activities such as key informant interviews, observations, focus groups, and surveys as required
- Conducting data entry and managing study data consistent with organizational policies and procedures, ensuring quality control and confidentiality including entering data and maintaining databases, preparing data sets for analysis, monitoring of research data and data coding
- Assisting with qualitative and statistical analysis and interpretation of data; summarizing research results in tabular and graphical form for use in PowerPoint presentations, manuscripts, and other reporting formats
- Reviewing and evaluating policies and practices to determine the benefits and impact of any changes that may occur
- Preparing a variety of documents and materials such as: emails, letters, memos, PowerPoint presentations, and status, summary and project reports related to research projects
- Developing and scheduling program work plan in accordance with specifications and funding limitations; monitoring and approving program expenditures ensuring that budget allocations are not overspent
- Coordinating activities of program with inter-related activities of other programs, or staff, to ensure optimum efficiency and compliance with appropriate policies, procedures and specifications, determine priorities, and provide updates
- Maintaining collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Other duties as requested
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Graduate degree in a related discipline, with a focus on research methods, program evaluation and/or policy analysis is preferred
- Two (2) years minimum work experience in Social Sciences research methods and/or policy analysis
- Two (2) years progressive writing experience which may include: proposals, research studies, report writing, policy and position papers, communication materials, and briefing documents
- Experience in a research related role in a non-profit organization or university/academic environment preferred
- Demonstrated experience in survey design
- High degree of computer literacy and advanced working knowledge of computer programs, including Windows, Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as Adobe Acrobat, and internet resource use required
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and flexibility to meet workload demands
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborative work in team environment, and development/delivery of reports and presentations
- Must be comfortable working virtually (meetings, training, remote work)
- A positive attitude, strong work ethic, excellent time management and organizational skills, able to prioritize and problem-solve in dynamic situations
- High regard for quality, accuracy, attention to detail and flexibility to meet workload demands required
- Experience with women's organizations and/or Career Development are assets
- Knowledge or experience of the policy cycle is an asset
- Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check is required upon employment and every two years there after.
Work Environment:
- Primarily 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday; some flexibility is required
- Some travel may be required for this role. Travel expenses will be covered in accordance with WRDC policies.
- A combination of in-office, remote, autonomous and/or team environment.
Salary Range: $48,000 -$52,000. WRDC offers a competitive compensation and benefits package. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and skills.
