The Research and Implementation Branch in Integrated Justice Services needs a motivated, innovative, and detail-oriented research professional who loves turning data into practical advice. The branch serves the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General, and the Ministry of Social Services. It helps research and design solutions for pressing issues in the criminal justice system and human services.
Reporting to the Director of Applied Research and Development, the Research Analyst will help identify relevant data to answer research questions; retrieve, link, and clean that data; manage the proper storage of data with sensitive information; ensure proper understanding of the data from a business perspective; conduct basic analyses; visualize data in easily understood ways; and work collaboratively to interpret results.
Applicants must:
- Have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel for data analysis.
- Possess expertise in at least one analytical /coding tool like Python, R, Power BI or SPSS.
- Be familiar with techniques to extract data from relational databases (e.g. SQL).
- Have knowledge of information management and data governance best practices.
- Be an expert at cleaning data.
- Have strong oral and written communication skills.
- Possess critical thinking skills and pay strong attention to detail.
- Have tree or more years of experience analyzing and reporting on administrative data in a research context with written outputs is required.
- Be familiar with quantitative research design.
- Have the ability to create compelling data visualizations.
The skills for this position are typically acquired through a degree in computer science or a quantitative social science. Education must be coupled with at least three years of work experience in a research environment. Applicants must be team players, solution-focused, and capable of managing competing priorities. Knowledge of the criminal justice system is an asset.
