Department Information

The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information

The Records Technician / Administrator (RT/A) primary responsibility in the South Slave Region is maintaining the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Digital Integrated Information Management System (DIIMS). While reporting to the Regional Manager Finance and Administration, the RT/A is responsible for implementing and maintain the South Slave Region’s record management system that is consistent with the GNWT wide and departmental specific Administrative and Operation Records Classification System (ARC and ORCS). This will operate and maintain the central records storage facility for eleven GNWT Departments within the Hay River Area in accordance with GNWT record management procedure and the ARCS and ORCS manuals to ensure the secure storage, control and final disposition of government records.

The Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required for this position are:
  • Knowledge and experience to apply standard office and administrative procedures within protocol.
  • Knowledge of several software areas such as word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and financial management systems.
  • Excellently demonstrated: Verbal and written communication skills to communicate with staff, community and land claimant staff and the public in a professional manner; computer operating skills.
  • Able to work in a high stress multi-tasking environment with tight deadlines and changing priorities.
The above Skills, Knowledge and Abilities are typically attained by:
  • Completion of a Secretarial Certificate (6 Months -1 year) with 3 to 4 years of progressively more responsible administrative experience; OR,
  • Completion of grade 12 plus one year of data entry experience and once year experience working with record storage and /or extensive filing systems. Experience using word processing, spreadsheets and data base programs is also required.
