About Us


Maintaining and building our Provincial infrastructure is no small job.


The Building Services Group at the Department of Transportation and Active Transit supports Nova Scotia’s 2,400 buildings and infrastructure assets across a wide range of clients. We maintain and support various government buildings and other built assets, including museums, core buildings and office buildings supporting the work of government, correctional centres, and justice centres.


About Our Opportunity


Reporting to the Manager of Business Services, the Clerk 4 (CL4) is responsible for all administration duties relating to the development and completion of new design projects being generated by the Technical Engineering and Design Services (TEDS) Team.


Primary Accountabilities


You will be responsible for cataloging and organizing all financial aspects of the TEDS Team including control and monitoring of all departmental control costs, documentation of project spending and assistance with identification of any financial discrepancies or possible improvements within the TEDS Team. The Clerk 4 will be responsible for working with and using the SAP Business Technology Platform as their main source for all data and document filing and processing for TEDS Team information. The Clerk 4 will develop and monitor the project schedules and that of the TEDS Staff.


Qualifications and Experience


You have five (5) years of related experience in bookkeeping or a related subject. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.


You possess a mathematical aptitude and have experience in accounts payable; forecasting and budgetary control; procurement; and reporting.


Proficiency in typing and extensive knowledge in spreadsheet software and creation, word processing, and email applications is essential.


You must demonstrate excellent coordination and organization skills along with experience in maintaining records in both manual and computerized environments.


The following qualifications are considered assets, including:


  • Completed course work in bookkeeping and accounting;
  • Familiarity with STAR/STOR;
  • Experience with job costing and preparation of building construction quantity documents; and
  • Experience with SAP (or equivalent).

Working Conditions


  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day.
  • May be required to work overtime on occasion.
  • Typically located in a comfortable office environment.
  • Much of the time is spent in a comfortable position with frequent opportunity to move about.
  • Regularly reads and interprets multiple sources of information, regular requirement to type, read and work on a computer.
  • May experience pressure with deadlines and need for accuracy.

Pay Grade: CL 22

Salary Range: $1,813.71 - $2,006.07 Bi-Weekly
