Position Summary*
The Land Protection Measures Lead is a 3 year contract position working with the VP, Conservation Policy and Planning, Director of Strategic Conservation, Chief Conservation Officer and NCC regional staff.
The incumbent will be responsible for identifying, piloting and documenting robust, scalable approaches to the development of Other Effective Area Based Conservation Measures (Conserved Areas) on private lands and on private-held crown tenures.
Working with NCC staff and provincial jurisdictional staff, the incumbent will work to minimize or eliminate barriers to OECM and Privately Protected Area (PPA) recognition.
Specifically, the incumbent will be focusing on forest and grassland OECMs across the country with an initial emphasis in SK, MB, ON and NB and PPAs in key locations.
Position Requirements

  • BSc minimum.
  • At least 5 years working in the field of private land conservation
  • At least 1 year experience with PPA and OECM designations
  • Understanding of provincial protected and conserved area programs
  • Creative thinker
  • Strategic approach to conservation policy work
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including: planning, budgeting and organizational skills;
  • Ability to foster good working relationships with NCC staff at regional and national levels as well as external partners
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable communicating with a wide variety of audiences
  • French would be an asset
  • Strong commitment to the mission of the Nature Conservancy of Canada
