In-Scope
NATURE OF WORK
This is specialized work in the production of visual communication tools required for corporate information, education and advertising programs. Employees in this class work in a Mac-based environment using applications such as Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator; research, design, lay out and illustrate creative concepts for electronic media, print production, illustration, typographic and photographic techniques related to graphic design. Employees participate in all phases of graphic design projects from initial concept through production and post-production evaluation. Work is subject to final review before publication or release. Work is performed with considerable independence according to general direction where discretion and judgment are exercised.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Not all inclusive or applicable to all assignments
Researches, designs, lays out and illustrates creative concepts for advertisements, brochures, posters, displays, signage, publications, electronic and other communications medium.
Coordinates design production with printers, freelance photographers, illustrators, and vendors.
Reviews all proofs to ensure specifications are followed.
Ensures graphic and illustrative artwork follows corporate identification standards.
Researches developments in graphic design technique and technology.
Interacts with user departments as required to provide technical advice and guidance, and to ensure assignments are completed as per specification.
Conducts oral presentations on graphic design concepts.
Prepares tender documents and specifications, coordinates tender openings, analyzes tender results and makes recommendations regarding tender awards.
Reviews invoices from printers and suppliers. Approves payment within authorized limits.
Performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill
Knowledge of design principles.
Skill in layout and design using computer hardware and software (ie. Adobe Creative Suite).
Skill in working with industry standard tools, materials and techniques used in graphic design and in the preparation of graphic and/or illustrative art work.
Knowledge of the commercial printing industry.
Education and Experience
Successful completion of a diploma in visual communications or graphic design.
Valid operators' licence in the appropriate driver classification.
