New job Financial Accountant - Term Certain in Alberta

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Financial Accountant is responsible for providing general accounting support to the Financial Services Department as well to other internal and external stakeholders to the Polytechnic. This position assists with ensuring the ongoing accuracy of various financial transactions and reports in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS) accounting legislation and with Polytechnic policies.
Job Duties

• Completes monthly bank account reconciliations, monitors bank activities and investigates discrepancies.
• Prepares accounting transactions and various financial schedules for Red Deer College Foundation (RDCF) ensuring all donation receipts are coded in accordance with donor agreements.
• Facilitates requests for spending donated finding in accordance with donor agreements.
• Generates charitable tax receipts for Red Deer College Foundation, ensuring compliance with CRA regulations.
• Prepares various yearend working papers for annual audit and provides support to auditors throughout interim and yearend audits.
• Provides assistance with the preparation of various reporting packages for the Government of Alberta including the Ministry Consolidation and FIRS Reporting.
• Provides assistance with drafting the financial statement and notes for Red Deer College Foundation.
• Prepares various interim financial reports for management and other departments as needed.
• Prepares Alumni Association financial statement and facilitates account transfers related to bingo/casino events.
• Maintains strong knowledge of public sector accounting

Required Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or Accounting
• 3 – 5 years previous job-related experience
• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Public Sector Accounting Standards (PSAS)
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office with advance level Excel skills
• Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Attention to detail; high level of accuracy is essential

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA Designation preferred or currently enrolled in the CPA program

Salary or Hourly? Hourly Salary $33.65 per hour. Benefits and Compensation InformationAn additional 15% of the hourly rate in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.
