The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society is a national non-profit organization that has been Canada’s voice for wilderness for over 50 years. At CPAWS-NL, our mission is to promote the systematic establishment of new terrestrial and marine protected areas and to foster effective management of existing protected areas in Newfoundland and Labrador. We are seeking a Conservation Campaigner to join our team.

About you:
You are passionate about conservation and have knowledge of conservation issues within Newfoundland and Labrador and an eagerness to grow your expertise in these fields. Interdisciplinary by nature, you enjoy connecting science to policy. You are adaptable and thrive in a diverse role with varied responsibilities. You enjoy organizing both people and projects and are comfortable juggling multiple projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines. You have lots of initiative and are equally happy working independently or as part of a team.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Collect research and report writing on various conservation initiatives
  • Draft reports for communications for various audiences, including government, media, and stakeholder groups
  • Supporting engagement in collaborative projects. This may include planning meetings, booking venues, drafting agendas, and taking notes
  • Support the development, implementation, and monitoring of campaigns
  • Provide coordination and support to CPAWS teams including preparing funding applications and reports, and planning

You will have (required qualifications):

  • Experience conducting and communicating research and analyses for non-specialist audiences
  • Coordination of campaigns or projects in conservation, environmental management, campaign management, or related field
  • Sharp written and verbal communications skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Devise and conduct surveys/interviews; analyze results
  • Devise and deliver presentations and other public speaking opportunities
  • Excellent logistical and organizational skills
  • Relevant educational experience, or equivalent training and/or experience (please describe how your education and/or experience is relevant to this role in your cover letter and resume)

This position will require access to a vehicle for travel within the province and work on weekdays, evenings and weekends.

You may have (the following would be beneficial but are not essential):

  • Non-profit experience, preferably with an ENGO or advocacy group.
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and engaging decision-makers and stakeholders from diverse sectors, backgrounds, and geographies.
  • Experience with ArcGIS
