The Opportunity
Rocky View Schools invites applications for a continuing, full-time
(35 hrs/week) Communications Officer. This position is located at the Education Centre located
in Airdrie, AB. The Communications Officer is responsible for delivering a
range of internal and external communications tactics, products and services
developed to support the jurisdiction’s goals and objectives.
Responsibilities Include
Support the Board of Trustees’ work advocating on behalf of RVS students through the creation and implementation of a range of digital and print materials
Development of stakeholder engagement tools and supporting materials such as focus groups, surveys, feedback forms, and feedback/analysis summaries
Coordinate meetings, events, and consultation/information sessions to support Board advocacy efforts
Preparing communication materials for government officials/audiences such as letters, presentations, fact sheets, reports and others
Coordinating the information flow with all parts of the organization to ensure consistency and accuracy of messages
Assisting with the development, implementation and maintenance of internal and external websites
Responsible for the relevant, timely and quality production of RVS internal newsletter
Supporting media activities including daily media monitoring, coordinating media interviews and events, drafting media releases/advisories/photo opportunities, developing and pitching story ideas, maintaining media distribution lists, and other duties as assigned
Researching, writing and editing communications materials for RVS such as community newsletters, reports, feature stories, fact sheets, speeches, presentations, letters, Board meeting highlights, and other products as needed
Supporting crisis communications efforts
Education/Experience
Post secondary degree in communication, with specialization in journalism or public relations (an equivalent experience will be considered)
Three or more years related experience in communications
Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite including Adobe Creative Suite and web-based applications including Office 365
Previous experience in public education would be considered an asset
