ANALYST I, QC LAB SERVICES
Term Position

Emergent BioSolutions is currently seeking an Analyst I, QC Lab Services for our Winnipeg location. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline, a minimum of 1-2 years of related experience in a recognized professional or technical/scientific field and have the basic knowledge of pharmaceutical GMP’s. Must have the ability to work in a fast -paced and highly regulated environment, the ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities. In addition, this individual will possess a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence and innovation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Analyst I, QC Laboratory Services performs inspection and release testing of raw materials and packaging components as per USP/EP compendial test methods and standard test methods. The Analyst I, QC Laboratory Services also performs testing as required to support method verification/validation and material & supplier qualification. He/She maintains laboratory cleanliness and performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment per established procedures.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform identification, assay and limit testing of raw materials to support manufacturing requirements. Common analysis techniques include FTIR, refractometry, pH measurement, density/specific gravity measurement using density meter, UV-VIS distillation and manual titrations.
Sample and inspect raw materials in compliance with GMP/ANSI standards.
Document laboratory work consistent with GxP requirements.
Maintain laboratory records and inventory for standards, reagents and laboratory supplies.
Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment in accordance with established procedures.
Execute material qualification and method verification/validation studies.
Maintain a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures.
Adhere to all effective TMD’s/SOPs and safety requirements and document laboratory work consistent with cGMP requirements
Make detailed observations, analyze/review data and interpret results.
Perform detailed technical and data integrity review of QC data as required
Contribute to troubleshooting/investigation efforts.
Work productively with other team members as well as on independent assignments.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Bachelors Degree in a scientific discipline required. .
Minimum of 1 - 2 years of related experience in a recognized professional or technical/scientific field.
Experience in a pharmaceutical cGMP environment is an asset, but is not required.
Experience in performing analytical wet chemistry analysis, such as titrations, distillations and simple instrumental techniques such as pH testing, densitometer, UV-VIS, etc.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office - Word, Excel.
Basic knowledge of pharmaceutical GMPs.
Knowledge of laboratory techniques and safety precautions.
WHMIS and chemical safety awareness.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and highly regulated environment.
Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities.
Competent in laboratory safety and generally-accepted lab practice, including maintaining adequate written laboratory records.
Able to communicate and articulate information in both written and verbal forms.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; can work collaboratively with others.
Able to interpret analytical data.
Able to contribute ideas/solutions to aid in troubleshooting and investigations.
