Working in accordance with the organization’s strategic vision, core values and engineering competencies, and reporting to the Alternative Fuels Manager, this position is responsible to provide leadership to internal staff and external support contractors, in the provision of operations activities that support alternative transportation fuels and marine bunkering assets. Develop and execute annual objectives, deliverables, and work plans related to capital project construction, service installation, emergency response, repair and maintenance. Manage team/s of skilled resources to meet operational requirements.
Responsibilities
Provide leadership to internal and external resources in the provision of operations activities to support the design, construction and ongoing operation & maintenance of alternative transportation fuels and marine bunkering assets. Maintain work management systems to ensure the highest level of safety and reliability to FortisBC customers. Develop and execute annual objectives, deliverables, and work plans related to capital project construction, service installation, coordination of repairs and maintenance, and emergency response. Manage team/s of skilled resources to meet operational requirements.
Responsible for on site quality control to ensure compliance with work related processes and quality metrics; ensure services required to efficiently deliver Analyze and track Alternative Fuel stations and logistics asset’s preventative maintenance schedules to determine opportunities to recommend improvements. Write and update operations processes and procedures based on on-site observations and recommendations made by specialized contractors. On-site oversight and decision making to ensure operation and maintenance contractors complete services in accordance with regulatory, industry, corporate standards and service level agreements. Oversee processes to ensure optimum efficiencies. Work with a team to provide provincial wide operational initiatives as required.
Manage a safe and healthy workplace for staff in order to meet health, safety and emergency requirements, including adequate emergency coverage. Become qualified as Technical Advisor (TA) for field Emergency Resopnce within first year. Participate in incident investigations; conduct root cause analysis, and develop action plans to prevent future incidents. Collaborate with procurement and other departments as required to set up and maintain an effective service contractor support network. Arrange training, set and review performance expectations and facilitate resolutions to work related issues. Ensure all support personnel are effectively trained and competent in work activities for optimal scheduling of service delivery.
Ensure that customer and shareholder expectations are achieved through the management of repair, maintenance and capital investment. This includes the oversight of costs associated to staff, facilities, vehicles, tools, and equipment. Participate in the review of capital purchases, third party contracts and internal service agreements from an operability and ease of maintenance perspective. Manage risks utilizing operational/project controls.
Act as the Subject Matter Expert for both internal and external stakeholders where support and/or input is required; establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, contractors, equipment suppliers, municipal agencies, emergency response and environmental management personnel. Support customer relationship processes to ensure expectations are met. Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma of Technology in a related discipline from a recognized program, Certified Member in the Applied Science Technologists & Technicians of BC or a Professional equivalent, plus 5 to 10 years of utility operations and project implementation experience related to energy utilization systems including design, construction, repair and maintenance or training experience specific to LNG or CNG implementation, O&M and training material development.
5 to 10 years related experience in a leadership capacity or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge of designated operational areas, Company policies, standards and procedures

Knowledge of regulatory framework, requirements, codes and business model
Knowledge of safety management processes and procedures
Knowledge of budget concept and principles
Knowledge of operation, maintenance and construction process
Knowledge of LNG and CNG systems

Knowledge of project management procedures
Knowledge of human resource policies and procedures including matters related to labour relations, recruitment and performance management
Demonstrated ability to attend to emergencies and co-ordinate activities under stressful situations
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects and related costs
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and demanding work schedules
Demonstrated ability to apply conflict resolution skills
Computer skills with application software tools and applications
Strong mechanical aptitude
